Venkatesh Iyer | Player of the Match: Although I would have been happier if we had won, I’m still delighted with my performance. The team had faith in me, and it was a joy to bat on such a beautiful wicket. Once you’ve scored those crucial 30-40 runs, it’s all about how you carry on. Their new ball swing bowlers posed a challenge, so I decided to be proactive by using my feet and adjusting my position in the crease. When the swing stopped, it was all about maneuvering. I tend to get hit here and there in every game, and I contemplated going out, but my coach and teammates encouraged me to persevere. We fell short by 15-20 runs, but given Mumbai Indians’ form, they would have chased it down in the next over anyway. Credit to their exceptional death bowling, they restricted us well.
Suryakumar Yadav | MI stand-in captain: We had a discussion in the dugout about carrying forward the momentum from the previous game, and the boys truly put on a show. While I would have loved to finish the game myself, I’m extremely pleased with how things unfolded. Initially, I felt the wicket was a bit dry in the afternoon, but as the match progressed, it settled down nicely in the evening. At Wankhede, a target of 180-190 is quite chaseable, and Ishan got us off to a fantastic start. As for my form, I took a relaxed approach and took my time during the first 6-7 balls. Once I got my eye in, I knew I could push it further. Absolutely, our strategy is to play smartly in the first 7-10 overs, and then unleash the firepower we possess. Today, we executed that plan brilliantly, and hopefully, we can carry this momentum into the upcoming games. And let’s not forget the legendary spell by Piyush Chawla; he thrives under pressure and is truly a remarkable character.
